Persoonlijk / Personal

Last monday I got a phone call from Ingrid from Sint Marie (a research centre for speech and language problems). All of the tests are enough to go ahead with applying for a special school for Stijn. She told me that he probably didn't even needed the ASD diagnose to get in! It's just a strange feeling, this is what we wanted for so long and now the end of it is in sight, so we got some mixed feelings here. It's fantastic he finally can go to a school where he will be heard instead of ignored. But at the same time it's a sad feeling. He's a very intelligent boy, but because of his problems everything he's thinking can come out, at least not in a way that someone else gets it, so he gets really frustrated. But we hope that he get's some help for that on a special school. Now we first have to apply with the diagnostic regional team and if they aproove, they apply Stijn to the indication committee. If they aproove and the school doesn't have any waitinglists, he can probably start in Januari. We didn't tell him, and we aren't going to do that, untill everything is arranged. No need to upset him so long before. Well we will see how it goes.
On the knitting front. I'm finished with the ribbing part of Meursault and I'm going to start the cabled lace pattern. I'll post some pics tonight Now I'm going to watch some CSI and knit ;-)

Vakantie / Hollidays

September Shrug, Summer Fever, Surf on the Waves en The Playground Shawl

The kids have 6 weeks free, isn't that great :-) And it hasn't stopped raining.... so I'll amuse them with swimming in the afternoon, and the rest of the day they are coloring pokemon. Mare is in a blue period, (but I don't worry, picasso had the same blue period) So I have 28 colorings from a water pokemon (the same one!!!) with green eyes, and the rest is blue....lol. No need to tell you that the blue coloringpen is empty now...lol

It has been a while since I last blogged, no need to tell you that it has been busy here. Not only with designing but also with the kids. Stijn needs to get back to Sint Marie for further testing, He wasn't himself those last 3 months, and that has it's impact on the rest of us. It helps that he has free of school now, but as always he has some adjusting to do and that takes a while.

On the designing part, I finished Summertime and Sunshine, they are both being tech-edited as we speak so I'm hoping to publish them by the end of July.

I've planned 4 designs for August

September Shrug

Surf on the waves

Summer Fever

And the Playground Shawl but I haven't made any pics yet

persoonlijk / personal

LOL

Where the #@#$$# stays time, before you know it, its 2 days ago I’ve blogged.
A personal note this time, At Sint Marie everything went well for Ame. For the next 6 months she doesn’t have to go to speech therapy. So it was worth while to go there.
It toke a lot of effort to get her in there, It’s paid for trough a national care system called AWBZ, so you have to fill in forms, a lot of forms, imagine a good book, that much, and you have to do that every 6 months, cause it’s expires after 6 months.
This kind of speechtherapie is a kind of back-up for the ‘normal’ speech therapist. If the speech therapist doesn’t know how to proceed, and the child isn’t improving, they can ask Sint Marie to take a look. At Sint Marie there working specialists like different kinds of linguists but also neuro-psycholigists. If the child is accepted and they know which department has to take a look, they’re going to test the child all the way, to find the cause or causes for the speech problems.
Stijn went also to Sint Marie but his acceptance went very quick, he was immediately placed on the second waiting list (first one is to look if you will be accepted and which department (2) has to take a look, second is the waiting list from the department) To give some figures, they get over 1200 requests and there can only be 72 children placed per department per year!!!!
Stijn end testing will take place in April, but he has a more complex profile, he is dyslectic (do you write it like that?) We went to the neurologist last Monday for test results, and he has a sleeping disorder called restless leg syndrome besides ADD
He’s getting some pills to sleep better, and we’ll hope it will have a good result also on his concentration.
At the moment Stijn is feeling great, at school he’s getting a minimum program, it means he’s getting all the normal stuff he has to learn but he doesn’t have to do the repeating exercises. Finally he isn’t every time the last one who finishes his work.
And the cutie as he is, he’s already asking for more work, when he’s finished his work

This was the personal note and let’s just says our family has great genetics!!!LOL
